Kate Chopin s The Awakening - 1522 Words

Kate Chopin’s Use of Feminist Symbolism in The Awakening It is a bird, it is a plane, it is Edna! Edna Pontellier, a woman who challenges the patriarchal society, undergoes many hardships and development in Kate Chopin’s The Awakening. In the beginning of the novel, Edna is misunderstood and caged, depicted as a parrot. As the novel develops, Edna desires to soar above the patriarchal society and believes she has the ability to do so. Later, Edna moves into the ‘pigeon house’, attempting to escape her husband and this society as a whole. In doing so, however, Edna isolates herself, eventually leading to her suicide. While Edna expresses her desire to escape the patriarchal society, Kate Chopin’s bird symbolism depicted her inability to do†¦show more content†¦In doing so, Edna accepts her position in society. As a result, any desires against the patriarchal society maintain within the restraint of a cage, leaving Edna feeling misunderstood. While Leoncà © is reading his newspaper, the narrator describes a parrot who spoke â€Å"a language which nobody understood†¦Mr. Pontellier had the privilege of quitting their society when they ceased to be entertaining† (Chopin 3). This symbolism highlights Edna’s caged existence and her inability to truly express her feelings and emotions. Due to the control of the patriarchy, Edna’s husband often overpowers her thoughts, further developing traditional gender roles. Mr. Pontellier has no desire to understand Edna, as long as she stays within the confines of her metaphorical cage and continues to entertain him. This characterization of Leoncà © causes the reader to sympathize with Edna due to her inability to express her thoughts. Edna’s caged existence pleases her, until she perceives she can escape the patriarchal society. Shortly after, Mademoiselle Reisz provides Edna with a glimmer of hope, sparking Edna’s desire to become strong enoug h to soar above the patriarchal society. After spending much of her life held within a metaphorical cage, Edna begins to test the boundaries of the society. After attempting to learn to swim all summer, Edna walks out into the water overcome with confidence: â€Å"she grew

Homelessness Among Those with Mental Illness - 1079 Words

According to Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, it is imperative that a persons physiological needs are met first and foremost. These basic needs include essentials such as food, water, clothing and shelter. If these are not met, other needs such as safety, security, belonging, and esteem are unattainable. These hierarchy of needs are not excluded from those who suffer from mental illnesses. Many North American cities are facing an increasing problem with homelessness. Unfortunately nearly one-third of homeless people in the US have severe mental illness (Stuart, 2009, p. 633). These include illnesses such as schizophrenia, major depressive disorder, and/or bipolar affective disorder (Stergiopoulos, et al., 2008, p. 62). Consequently, homeless†¦show more content†¦These losses eventually led to withdrawal of support system and ultimately ended in homelessness. Participants reported homelessness resulted in a loss of privacy, a place to have personal possessions, as well as a site for relationships and other aspects of home-life. (Kirkpatrick, 2008, p.73) Adopting the ‘housing first’ philosophy, in 1999, the Canadian government initiated the HOMES (Housing with Outreach, Mobile and Engagement Services) Program, providing housing and support for 1000 homeless people with serious mental illnesses (Kirkpatrick, 2008, p. 69). The study focused mainly on the process of moving on from life’s hardships and providing a second chance in society more so than the effects of mental illness on the participants. By establishing stable housing and providing necessary physical and psychiatric treatment, the participants of the study showed much improvement allowing them to feel a sense of control and opportunities to reconnect with estranged friends and family (Kirkpatrick, 2008, p. 74). One participant was even able to regain visitation rights to her children due to the apartment the HOMES program provided, while another was able to find regula r employment (Kirkpatrick, 2008, p. 73). This indicates that with the proper funding and adequate support services, many mentally ill patients can be successfully integrated and become active participants in their communities. Reflection Study Methodological Pluralism

Question: Discuss about the Reflection Studyfor Methodological Pluralism. Answer: Article 1: Knox, K.T. (2004) A researcher's dilemma-philosphical and methodological pluralism. The Electronic Journal of Business Research Methods, 2(2), pp.119-128. From this article, I have learnt about how philosophical and methodological pluralism creates confusion for the researcher in performing a research. I have understood that linking of research methods with a particular philosophic argument could influence the ability of researcher to make creative selection of data collection methods in negative manner. I have learnt that the researchers selection of philosophical arguments or stance in a research is required to be very precise as it helps to make more informed and creative selection of the research methods. I came to know the relationship between qualitative and quantitative methods with the philosophic argument by learning theory and model of Ticehurst and Veal and Saunders. I understood from this article that philosophic arguments may not be an appropriate basis to make selection of the research methods. I have learnt from the article that clear understanding regarding the relationship between research philosophy and methods is critical. I came to know from this article that the relationship among the research philosophy, theory and method is quite complex in the social science. I learnt from this that the perspective to linking research philosophic argument to the method may cause confusing in creating the research process. The learning of this article could be used to determine the process of conducting research. It raised question regarding the right way to select the research methods and the role of philosophical stance in the process of selecting research methods within the social science. The learning from this article leads to the change in my point of view for the relationship of research philosophy and methods. Article 2: Brannen, J. (2005) Mixing methods: The entry of qualitative and quantitative approaches into the research process. International journal of social research methodology, 8(3), pp.173-184. In this article, the use of mixed methods including qualitative and quantitative is examined to determine its influence on the research process. I came to know from this article that qualitative and quantitative paradigm provide guidance to the researcher in developing epistemological assumptions and using theoretical approaches and methods in the study of social world. I have learnt that objectivism, constructionism and subjectivism are three epistemological assumptions in which different approaches are used to study the social world. The selection of research methods is influenced by the selection of epistemological assumption in a research. Through this, I learnt the presence of ambiguity in the selection of mixed research method in social science studies in which researcher adopts an epistemological assumption. Mixing method approach in a research creates issues for a social science researcher to make selection of the research methods. I came to know through this that methods in qualitative and quantitative are contrary to each other and due to this it causes difficulties for the researcher to integrate the successfully to perform research in the social science field. I have also learnt that paradigmatic assumptions are re-emerged on timely basis, which influences the selection of research methods. It is learnt from this article that theoretical perspectives emphasizes on the considering these as two different approaches, whereas in terms of application, researcher are tended to avoid this divide and use both as mixed methods. McDonalds advertising free essay sample

Abstract This essay seeks to explain the link between McDonalds advertisement and the effect on the average consumer. McDonalds is one of the most popular fast food chains in the United States and is also criticized for their unhealthy foods. In my analysis I will analyze the history of McDonalds and how their advertising and publicity has affected the public mindset. I will also analyze how their ads and marketing are appealing to their customers. With all of this research I conducted a survey that determined what exactly the consumer see in McDonalds that keeps them coming. I will then analyze the results and come to a conclusion on the overall impact McDonalds makes on society. McDonald’s and Their Advertising Influence Even though many know McDonalds may be unhealthy many still choose to eat there. This choice may be based on the influence of McDonald’s advertisements or personal choice. We will write a custom essay sample on McDonalds advertising or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page McDonalds has a long history that some have grown up to know and have shared this with their children. Some of the reasons society chooses to still eat there is because of their prices, advertisements and convenience. These ads that McDonalds produces create a rhetorical situation that involve and convince the audience that they have a need. From a survey conducted on their ads, the results are clear that McDonalds advertisements do make some impact and convince the consumer to buy their product. McDonalds is one of the most popular fast food restaurants in the world and that popularity has built over time from their influence in advertisements and other media outlets. McDonalds was founded in California on May 15,1940 and since then has grown to be the largest fast food chain in the world. They serve around 68 million customers every day worldwide (McDonald’s Corporation). That kind of power came from influence and popularity of their business. The influence McDonalds uses is their knack for advertising, although they did not always have the same advertising techniques as they do today. They started out as simple jingles that showed their products and locations as being clean and a family oriented. One advertisement that shows this evolvement from their original simple methods to their now rhetorical technique is below and figure 1 in the appendix. This photo features a baby that is sucking on a nipple that is a hamburger bun. This presents a situation to the audience in which they have to understand. The baby is simulating a sacred ritual that is normally between the baby and its mother (Speider 2012). McDonalds has also used social media to connect with consumers in a way that is acceptable with their peers. Ads of this type were never shown in the 40’s when McDonalds was created (DiPippa 2006). Over time they have gotten even more personal with the consumer to make them feel invited and comfortable. McDonalds has one particular ad that is influencing to most and has been reviewed and analyzed by a professional. This ad is comes from the McDonalds in China and is reviewed by the company Lab Brand. The ad opens with close ups of their breakfast products and then it depicts their target customer. They depict him as a young professional in an office building. While in the quiet elevator he holds a McDonald’s bag as the elevator rises it symbolizes his ascension. From that ad Lab Brand says â€Å"McMorning is not just a breakfast; it is a tool. The McMorning breakfast does not just satisfy; it empowers. The McMorning breakfast gives this young executive the energy and confidence to rise professionally and socially† (Brand Source 2008). The purpose of this ad is to imply that a McDonalds breakfast to the consumer is advancement and a lift on their day. Although this may sound good, in reality there are fallacies to the plot of this ad. One being even if you were to eat McDonalds, there is no evidence that proves that you will have a good day or a bad day. This is an implication to the ad since there is no supporting evidence other than this one person who may have been affected positively from a McDonalds breakfast. It also may have an emotional impact on some of its audience that will give them a euphoric feeling of hope. I believe that this ad presents a situation to the consumer that they may relate to and desire to achieve. But, in reality it is a rhetorical scenario created by McDonalds to influence the consumer into thinking that by having McDonalds for breakfast that they somehow will have a great day and achieve great things. McDonalds has always chosen an audience for in which they want to spend their time advertising. When they started out they were family oriented with a knack for cleanliness (Speider 2012). This method was not as relatable as the ads created for consumers today. This has evolved over time to target all kinds of consumers in different markets. The ads seen today imply a situation that a consumer can relate to or a problem, which they need to solve. This gives the consumer the desire for their product to solve either of McDonalds desired outcomes. The ads may feature a young man or a mom that they try to relate to young people or children. They may use a mother in an ad to make a child feel comfortable with McDonalds, since a mother is a child’s safe base. They also use toys as a method of enticing children into convincing their parents into coming just for the toy. Some of their ads use pricing such as the â€Å"Dollar Menu† to appeal to the thrifty consumer that wished to save and they may see it as â€Å"only a dollar†. One attractive print ad to some is the one with coupons that the consumer can use to get a cheaper meal. The advertisements are important to drive customers to one of their 33,000 restaurants (Kowitt 2011). The methods in which these ads are delivered are an important step for McDonalds because if they are not deployed correctly they may not reach their intended audience. McDonalds uses several methods to deploy their ads such as TV, Radio, Social Media, Billboards, and Print. For the purpose of this essay, a survey was conducted with the goal of understanding how McDonalds ads influenced the customer. This survey was given to 30 college students in the form of an online questionnaire. The survey participants consisted of 55% female and 45% male. The questions were simple and asked what kinds of ads they have seen McDonalds use. The entire list of questions can be seen in the appendix as figure 2. These answers from the survey concluded some of my research questions. From the survey, 72. 7% of the surveyed audience sees most McDonalds ads on T. V; this data is shown in the graph below and in figure 3 of the appendix. The next question was how many McDonalds ads that subject has seen in the past thirty days. This question created a diverse set of answers that ranged from 0-30. The next question was what ad appealed to the subject the most, which turned out to be a T. V. advertisement that interested 54% of the subjects. The second most appealing was a billboard advertisement. The most convincing item to the subjects that brings them to McDonalds is convenience. This convenience is their locations, drive-thru and hours. At the end of the survey it was clear that the ads were successful in influencing the average consumer. The survey also showed that out of all surveyed that they all have seen a McDonalds advertisement. This shows that McDonalds has been able to penetrate all markets to gain the audience of most consumers. They also showed that McDonalds knows what areas to focus on to drive the growth of their business. McDonalds is one of the most popular fast food restaurants in the world and that popularity has built over time from their influence in advertisements and other media outlets. Their popularity has been built from their ability to tailor their ads to their audience and have them evolve with society. They also have an impressive ability to deploy the ads that are relevant to the market they are trying to reach. This use of advertisement can have a negative or positive effect on the consumer. A negative effect of their ads is a false sense of hope. A positive effect is an informed consumer. McDonalds has built a solid customer base from their creative advertisements that influence consumers into thinking that they have a need McDonalds. References Brand Source. (2008). 5 Nerdy Essay Writing Skills You Cant Get Away from

5 Nerdy Essay Writing Skills You Cant Get Away from 5 Nerdy Essay Writing Skills You Cant Get Away from Writing essay in college requires many essay writing skills, including those listed below. Using these tips and integrating these skills will help you achieve great things. Planning Ahead Although planning is a practical approach to time management, it is also important to take into account different ideas for making and keeping a sensible time schedule. In preparing your schedule, it is crucial to be detailed and explicit in how you intend to spend your time. If, for example, you intend to work on history questions, indicate ‘Page 14, review questions 1-10’ as opposed to simply stating ‘history questions’. Working in the Same Spot To train your body to settle and concentrate faster during your study time, study in a regular location. Use this place only to study so that your body naturally relates this location to the activity. Consider places that are serene and have the items that you would need to study e.g. computers. Avoid places that make you too comfortable to do any constructive work a bed or comfortable couch is probably not a good idea. It is better to find a location where you can sit straight at a desk. Reading Some reading assignments demand that you know the details of a specific segment of chapter. In these cases, you can get by with reading only these sections; read with a definite intention and take notes of key words, descriptions and any other relevant material that will help you to limit the amount of reading that you will do. Great English The subject of your sentence is the person, the place, or the thing that is acting. The object is the person, place or thing that is being acted upon. An adverb is designed to modify a verb, and it is easy to remember this because â€Å"verb† is in the name. An adjective is meant to modify a noun. So if someone asks you â€Å"how are you doing?† you should answer â€Å"I am doing poorly† or â€Å"I am doing well†, NOT â€Å"I am doing good†. The reason for this is that â€Å"to do† is a verb, so whatever you put after â€Å"doing† needs to be an adverb so that it can modify your verb. â€Å"Good† in this case is an adjective which does not belong here. If someone asks you â€Å"how are you?† you can say â€Å"I am good† because you are modifying yourself, or a noun. Concentrating on One Thing at a Time Be sure to concentrate on one activity at a time, giving your mind a more conducive working environment and guaranteeing that you work effectively. Allocate the most droning tasks first to work on them while your mind is still fresh. If you push these forward to a time when you are tired, you will likely be overwhelmed and give up, choosing instead to sleep or watch TV. Identify whether your peak study time is during the day or at night and organize your time accordingly. Overall, essay writing in college requires many skills, including those listed above. Role and Importance of Fieldwork in Learning Geography Research Paper

Role and Importance of Fieldwork in Learning Geography - Research Paper Example One way of achieving the goal is by engaging children in fieldwork activities frequently. In teaching practical lessons the first-hand experience plays a vital role as it makes learning more interesting to students while also enabling students to acquire certain vital skills that may not be easily acquired in the classroom setting. During fieldworks students basically, collect, analyze and present data. In geography, fieldwork plays a vital role in helping students to learn about the environment, places and human behavior. Several constraints have however come in the way of primary school teachers seeking to engage their students in geographical fieldwork. Some of these include unavailability of time throughout the academic year, non-availability of insurance policies to cover students and their teachers on fieldwork missions, lack of resources for carrying out fieldwork activities and pessimism from parents or school administrations regarding such exercises among other reasons. This paper seeks to analyze the role and importance of fieldwork in primary education, and more especially in learning geography. There has never been, in the past, so much talk about biodiversity, sustainability and citizenship as it is today. It can, therefore, be confidently said that it is very important for citizens to appreciate at a tender age the value of the environment and understand how the great ecological dilemmas that face the world are scientifically related to it. In fact, according to Professor May of Oxford, â€Å"it is in the field†¦ where acting locally becomes thinking globally† (May, Richardson and Banks, 1993, pp2-5).

As India calls forth her old 'hacker', or netwalker, friends, she runs into an old partner and lover. Consequently, she finds she has more connections, which were former netwalker, as she was, in corporate positions than she had known. And this is where a lot of her help stems from. 'When you are the authority, nothing can stop you. You need not lurk behind the shadows when the light shone upon you is your own'; (Hackers 49 min). One of the main themes in this book is that the government will attempt to control citizen's activities at all costs.

America missouri

The Missouri compromise was a certain kind of agreement that was signed back in 1820, between the anti – slavery and pro-slavery factions in the United States congress . This agreement basically involved the primary regulations of slavery in the western territories. The agreement prohibited slavery in the former northern Louisiana territory exempting the upper boundaries of the proposed Missouri state. Prior before the agreement was met, the House of Representatives had refused to accept this kind of compromise and a conference committee was to be appointed to tackle the issues arising from this compromise.Justices would not have been achieved in lieu of such a case where struggle had erupted between the whites and the blacks, owing to the discrepancy that had existed between these to sets of human beings and Africans being considered minorities. The United States Senate rejected this move and it refused to concur with the amendment and the entire measure was all lost. Was the re are any possible and fair move that would have resolved this conflict? Equity/ fairness were not the tools to play in this context for they would have achieved minimal if not insignificant difference.During the following secession that is between 1819- 1820, a similar bill was passed with an amendment, which was introduced on 26 January 1820, by sir John W. Taylor of New York, which permitted Missouri into a union as a slave state. This quest was completed with the admission of Alabama as a slave state in December rendering the number of slave and Free states equal. Consequently, a bill was passed in the house on January 3rd 1820, admitting Maine as a Free State .However, the Senate thought and decided to merge the two measures together, whereby a bill for admission of Maine accompanied by an amendment enabling the people of Missouri to establish a state constitution was amended (http://www. infoplease. com/ce6/history/A0833427. html). Just before the bill was send back to the ho use, a second amendment was adopted stirred by Jesse B. Thomas of Illinois which excluded slavery from the Missouri territory to the north and southern boundaries of Missouri, further exempting the proposed regions within the limits of the proposed state of Missouri.Disputes emerged between the two ends that is the southern and the northern states struggling for power in congress and control over the future territories. This discourse emerged as the different factions and the democratic – Republican Party began losing its coherence. In April 21st Thomas Jefferson wrote a letter stating that such kind of a division created by the comprehensive compromise line would however, lead to the destruction of the union.Congress considerations over the admission of Missouri raised issues of sectional balance, for the country had become equally divided between slave and free slave states each having a composition of eleven regions (http://www. pbs. org/wgbh/aia/part3/3h511. html). The ad mission of Missouri as a slave state was to tip up the balance in the senate which was composed of two senators from each state in due favor of the slave states. As a result of this discourse states along the northern hemisphere wanted Maine to be admitted as a free state.By the beginning of the year 1818, Missouri had expanded in terms of population and it gained sufficient population enough to warrant its admission into a union state. Its occupants largely originated from the south and it was expected that this would be a slave state. A state house bill was passed in the house of representatives by James Tallmadge of New York the same year proposing an amendment that would ban the importation of slave trade and bring an ultimate emancipation of the slaves born in Missouri .A close analysis following this proceedings ranging from the two ends showed that justice was sort through legal procedures and fairness was not the tool to attack the whole issue. In reference to this effect an other amendment was passed to the house in February 1819 where the senate was not involved . Bitterness among candidates from both ends during the debate sharply placed emphasis towards the sectional division of Unite States (http://www. americaslibrary. gov/cgibin/page. cgi/aa/presidents/monroe/compromise_1). In 1820, a bill admitting Maine as a state was also passed through the house. This was precisely a legal proceeding that was meant to ensure justice was observed to settle the conflict. The successful admission of Alabama as a slave state by the year 1819 converged the Free states and slave states to equal representations in the senate. This was achieved through pairing Maine and Missouri to be Free states. This equality was to be maintained. The two bills were later merged together as one senate, both having a clause forbidding slavery in Missouri and further prohibiting slavery in the remaining parts of Louisiana the Upper north 36 30’N lat and the southern boundary la titude of Missouri. This compromise bill was rejected by the house. The rejection called for another conference meeting made up of members from both houses to ponder the issue not based on legal procedure but this time to consider equity and fairness was done on both sides. These bills were however, treated as separate entities and by March, 1820, Maine achieved its goals and it was made a state of its own while Missouri was authorized to establish a constitution of its own having no restrictions on slavery.Stern legal procedures were to be observed in order to ensure the senate proceedings were not driven by personal or individual opinions, but whatever move taken was to be a consolidation of thoughts through various forums and consultations. The provisions to the Missouri constitution permiting the immigration of the free blacks to the states was highly objected by the many northern congressmen, a situation which called for another congressional compromise. This discourse would hav e stirred more conflicts once more. Stern legal procedures were to be observed this time round to settle this dispute (http://www. pbs. org/wgbh/aia/part3/3h511.html). The Missouri legislature stood up vividly this time round to defend his constitution and held its power high that nothing in his constitution would be interpreted to abridge the rights of the citizens of United States a move that saw the charter ratified and Missouri was admitted to the Union In August 1821. Henry Clay, the speaker of the senate did not either match to secure passage of the entire compromise. The application of Missouri to be offered consideration for statehood sparked a bitter debate in the congress concerning the issue of territories which had been created as a result of the purchase of Louisiana of 1803.With the concern that the southern end would have representational advantage, Ney York Congressman James Tallmadge introduced another amendment that was to prohibit any further expansion of slavery within the area. This action was however, to set the children of Missouri free. Despites the many dangers and challenges for having free blacks intermingling with slaves, Tallmadge come out rightly to defend his people, and he declared that he was aware of the will of his constituents and as their representatives he avowed to proclaim their hatred to slavery occurring in any shape.Once more, legal procedures had to take toes to resolve this conflict and a consensus was reached when the two parts compromised the situation. At last the northern part of Massachusetts finally become Maine and it was later admitted to the union as a free state the same time when Missouri was being admitted as a slave state. The two ends thereby, maintained an equal balance of regions where Missouri had 12, and Maine got 12 respectively. By and large, an imaginary line, 36 digress 30 minutes north latitude was drawn while the portions of Louisiana territory lying along the north of the compromise line wer e to be set as Free states(http://civilwar. bluegrass. net/secessioncrisis/200303. html). Contrast The American Dream With The Real Life Of The Migrant Worker Essay

In 1930’s America, most Americans had the so-called American Dream, which was to own their own piece of land and to be their own boss. The dream came into existence in the 1800’s, when land was readily available. By the 1930’s, when this novel ‘Of Mice And Men’ was set, it was almost impossible to make the dream reality as most land had been bought beforehand. Migrant workers are labourers who work on ranches as harvesters, skinners, and swampers, carrying heavy materials and doing many other manual jobs. They work hard and earn poor wages. They also have no friends or family as they continuously travel to different ranches in California, and so therefore they have very few possessions such as tinned food, small mats, blankets and shaving blades etc. They carry their possessions in a bindle and are commonly called ‘bindle stiffs’ or ‘bindle bums’, as they carried them on their back. Migrant workers sleep in bunkhouses which are situated on the ranch. They share a bunkhouse with other workers of that ranch. There is little privacy in the bunkhouses as there are usually between four and six workers in one bunkhouse. They are allocated their own shelf or cupboard in which to keep their very few possessions. Migrant workers wear denim clothes as denim is hard wearing and so they don’t have to keep on buying clothes with their hard earned money which can be spent elsewhere. Workers do not have any rights such as sickness payments, old age pensions etc, from their ranch. So when workers retire they have a very grim future in prospect. To be able to work, workers were issued with work cards from the local job agencies. The work cards were only given if a ranch boss wanted new workers. Work cards were important as it gave them a work permit. Workers also feared the sack, which was the case if someone done something wrong. The had no choice of menus as meals were cooked by other workers. If they wanted a different meal they would have to go outside the ranch in the town which workers have to pay for themselves. There was little justice on the ranches and workers had to develop their own rules of behaviour to survive. The novel we read is called ‘Of Mice And Men’. It is set in California, America, in the 1930’s. ‘Of Mice And Men’ is mainly about two American migrant workers. One of the workers is called Lennie and the other worker is called George. The writer of the novel, John Steinbeck, shows us in detail their lives as migrant workers, with the other workers, and Steinbeck also shows us the dreams and aspirations of these two migrant workers and the other workers. Steinbeck also shows the reality on the ranch and what they actually experience. George and Lennie are very close friends. In fact Lennie cannot move without George, as George is a father like figure to him. Lennie has a mental disability and acts like a small child, though he is a very powerful man as seen in his first description, ‘†¦a huge man, shapeless of face, with large pale eyes, with wide sloping shoulders, and he walked heavily, dragging his feet a little, the way a bear drags his paws’. Lennie is frequently described through animal imagery due to his physical features, eg ‘like a terrier who doesn’t want to bring a ball to its master’, ‘strong asa bull’, ‘Lennie covered his face with his huge paws and bleated with terror,’ Lennie growled back to his seat†¦Ã¢â‚¬â„¢ . This consistent use of animal imagery echoes Lennie’s love of and devotion to animals of his own, especially rabbits, mice and puppies. Lennie is a gentle giant, who brings out trouble. Lennie is doomed in a world o f desperate moral confusion. He cannot survive in a world of cruelty, selfishness, and disgrace. Throughout the novel, Lennie is portrayed as sympathetic in loving terms, eg ‘†¦..Lennie’s jus’ like a kid. There ain’t no more harm in him than a kid, neither, except he’s so strong’. George about (Lennie), ‘He ain’t bright. Hell of a good worker, though. Hell of a nice fella, but he ain’t bright’. Lennie’s innocence ‘I won’t get in no trouble, George. I ain’t gonna say a word’. Slim about (Lennie) ‘He’s nice fella. Guy don’t need no sense to be a nice fella’. George’s description is completely opposite of Lennie, and Steinbeck’s initial description emphasises the physical difference between him and Lennie, ‘ The first man was small and quick, dark of face, with restless eyes and sharp strong features. Every part of him was defined. Small, strong hands, slender arm s, a thin and bony nose’ . The novel ‘Of Mice And Men’ commences a few miles south of Soledad, near the Salinas River. It is warm and tranquil. It is important to mention the opening part of the novel as this is where George identifies a spot where, if Lennie gets into trouble , he can go to and hide, ‘If you jus’ happen to get in trouble like you always done before. (In Weed, Weed is a town in California where George and Lennie used to, before they had to run as Lennie was accused of raping a woman) I want you to come right here an ‘ hide in the bush’. This instruction ensures that the novel will end where it began. George and Lennie are looking forward to their dream which is to save money by working on the ranch in Soledad (the town where they arrived after Weed), and one day owning their own piece of land and being their own bosses, which is the American Dream. George and Lennie’s dream is more materialistic, as they envision a place where ‘nobody gona get hurt nor steal from them’. Their small piece of land will make them part of a stable and secure society, instead of being on its migratory fringes. The friendship between Lennie and George is firmly rooted in their dream. A dream that Lennie is never tired of hearing and which relieves them both from the pain of solitude. The dream is everything to Lennie and so George endlessly repeats descriptions of their idealistic future, a happy time when they will ‘Live off the fatta the land’. Lennie delightedly enjoys interrupting George†¦.. ‘†¦But not us! An’ why?†¦ Because †¦ Because I got you to look after me, and you got me to look after you and that’s why’. George and Lennie’s dream introduces the theme of friendship and love, basic human needs that had all but disappeared at that time for millions of Americans. Candy and Crooks other migrant workers on the same ranch, are also caught up in this dream. On this ranch there was racial prejudice against non-whites, and the stable buck, who was black, has his own room. He reads books to pass his time alone and so therefore he is educated. A lot of migrant workers wanted their own room and privacy like Crooks, and were jealous of it. It was wrong for anyone to go into Crooks’s room as he was black, but one day Lennie went inside and started talking to Crooks. Lennie discussed his dreams with Crooks and he dejectedly and wryly commented, ‘Nobody never gets to heaven, and nobody never gets no land’. Crooks also commented on how his father had a ranch when he was a kid and how he and his two brothers used to work on it. Candy was also caught up in George and Lennie’s dream and wanted to help by adding to the funds with his savings. Curly who is the son of the owner of the ranch, is married and his wife is also involved in a imaginary future and she has a dream of herself as a great movie star. But in one way or another all the dreams of these workers are smashed. This American Dream makes Lennie happy as here he gets to tend rabbits and mice which he loves as they are soft, and so therefore George always repeats the dream for him. And so it seems that George is trying to help Lennie achieve the dream. And helping each other on the ranch was seen to be unusual amongst the workers, and it was different between George and Lennie and the other workers. The reality of the lives of George and Lennie was that it was a struggle even to get a job, and even with a job, funds were still insufficient to buy land, (which was their dream), let alone enjoy themselves. Life involved hard work for George and Lennie. We can see strong devotion in George and Lennie but, in reality they were living with sadistic people such as Carlson. This was seen as he shot Candy’s dog which Carlson said was too old and smelly and suggested the dog was suffering and it would be better off it was killed, ‘That dog ain’t no good to himself. I wish somebody’d shot me if I get a cripple’. This comment seems to be the voice of Steinbeck, a pessimistic voice that understood the fate of all the disposable people. Carlson shoots the dog, and Candy’s final comment about the dog influences George’s decision to kill Lennie. Candy, ‘I ought to of shot that dog myself. I shouldn’t ought to let no stranger shoot my dog’. Although he earned poor wages George enjoyed himself by going to the brothel and drinking. And while Lennie was getting excited about living on his own land, he still had to sleep with four other workers in the bunkhouse with no room for and furniture and no personal possessions which was the same for all workers. George and Lennie had a relationship which was unusual. George always looked after Lennie, and they supported each other, which was unusual. Slim, who is a worker on the ranch, provides a strong contrast to the previous negativity and latent sense of danger. Slime moves ‘With a majesty only achieved by royalty and master craftsman’. Slim’s reaction to George’s protection of Lennie, seems to echo the feelings of Steinbeck himself, ‘Ain’t many guys travel around together ‘†¦Ã¢â‚¬â„¢ I don’t know why. Maybe every’body in the whole damn world is scared of each other’. Recreational activities for the workers on the ranch, apart from going to the brothel every Saturday and having Sunday off, included playing horseshoe which was a game played, outside the barn. The dreams articulates two essential themes in this novel; importance of dreaming and loneliness in the lives of the workers. George and Lennie are very different from all the other workers, mainly because of their relationship and their goals. This may seem odd considering that George always complains of how easy life would be without Lennie (due to his problems), George could spend the nights in ‘cat houses’ and drink quantities of ‘rotgut booze’. Yet his devotion to and protection of Lennie make it clear that he does not want this kind of freedom, as such freedom would leave him alone. In a different sens, Steinbeck continuously focuses on the isolation of loneliness. George is frequently playing ‘solitare’ (a card game for one person). However George is not a pathetic character. He has a will and he makes two critical decisions at the end of the novel. Loneliness is also seen through Cooks, the stable buck, in that, as he is black, he is isolated from all the other workers and therefore has his own room which nobody is allowed to enter. However one Saturday night, Lennie enters Crooks’s room and chats innocently to Crooks about the place he and George are going to have. Lennie is rapt in wonder of the dream and the delight of his new puppy, and is deaf to Crooks’s personal reminiscence. However, when Crooks starts teasing Lennie about the idea that George may not come back, Lennie is extremely agitated. Unable to cope with the thought that someone may have hurt his beloved George, Lennie is ready to attack Crooks physically. Crooks manages to calm Lennie down, and whilst Lennie dreams contentedly of their little piece of land, Crooks speaks of loneliness, and his life when he was a kid. Crooks, a victim of racial inequality, remarks cynically, ‘Nobody never gets to heaven, and nobody never gets no land’. Candy joins Lennie in Crooks’s room. Crooks, desperately lonely, is secretly delighted to have company. George returns. He is angry that Lennie and Candy have shared their plans with Crooks. They all return to the bunkhouses and leave Crooks alone in his room to massage his crooked spine. The opening location and atmosphere reflects the ending of this novel. As this is the day (Sunday) where Lennie dies. While the men are noisily enjoying a ‘horseshoe tenement’ outside, Lennie is alone in the barn. He is distressed as he has accidentally killed his puppy. He’s terrified that George will punish him and he (Lennie) will not ‘get to tend no rabbits’. Curly’s wife, dressed in a tartish way, goes to Lennie. She consoles him about the puppy, ‘he was jus ‘ a mutt’. And settles down to talk to him. Lennie is disheartened with the dead puppy. Curly’s wife tells Lennie, ‘I never get to talk to nobody. I get awful lonely’. She goes on to say that she can only talk to Curly otherwise he gets mad. Lennie tells her how he likes to pet soft things and Curly’s wife encourages him to stroke her hair; ‘Here feel right here†¦Ã¢â‚¬â„¢ feel right aroun’ there ansee how soft it isâ€℠¢. As always Lennie has no understanding of his strength and as Curly’s wife becomes hysterical, Lennie, confused and terrified, prevents her from screaming. Her eyes are ‘wild with terror’ and her neck snaps under Lennie’s paw-like grip. The description ‘her body flopped like a fish’ contains identical imagery to that used when Lennie defended himself against Curly, ‘Curly was flopping like a fish†¦'(chapter 4). Lennie remembers George’s instruction at the opening of the novel and runs to hide in the bush where George told him to. Alerted by Candy, George steals Carlson’s gun and then joins the men. George reassures himself and says ‘maybe they’ll lock him up an’ be nice to him.’ Curly is bursting with rage when he finds out what has happened to his wife and is determined to kill Lennie because Lennie crushed his hand. George is aware that he needs to save Lennie from the fury of Curly. Candy spoke of his greatest fear ‘You an’ me’ can get that little place, can’t we , George?’ Before George spoke candy dropped his head and looked down at the bay. He knew the dream was over. George then faces reality and tells Candy, ‘I’ll work my month an’ I’ll take my fifty bucks an’ I’ll stay all night in some cat house’. George comes back to the barn, as if he did no know, with all the other workers. At this point George knows what he is going to do. Curly gathered his troops together with Crooks’s gun and went to search for Lennie. The death of Lennie will spell the death of his shared dream. He is figuratively as dead as Candy’s dog. The description echoes that of chapter 1, but the stillness has a sharper edge. A motionless heron swallows a water snake, the wind is a ‘gust’ and the dry leaves on the g round ‘scudded’. Lennie kneels down at the edge of the water and drinks, but whereas earlier ‘He flung himself down†¦. drank with long gulps, snorting into the water like a horse’. Now he ‘Knelt down barely touching his lips to the water.’ The verb ‘Jerked up’ and the fact that he ‘Strained’ towards the sound of the birds, conveys his restlessness. Lennie is tormented with guilt and is confusion and anguish reveal themselves in a vision of his Aunt Clara and a gigantic rabbit. The rabbit seems to be imitating George, calling him a ‘Crazy bastard’. The arrival of George settles Lennie and pathetically, knowing he has done a ‘Bad thing’. He waits to be scolded. George goes through the motions of saying how easy life would be without Lennie but his voice is ‘Monotonous’ and has ‘No emphasise’. This leads automatically to the reinforcement of their friendship and their dream. As the shouts of the men come closer, George prepares to shoot the unsuspecting Lennie. George’s hand shake ‘Violently’ but he’s fully aware of the brutality of Curly, so pulls the trigger and this saves Lennie from the vicious brutality of Curly, so then throws the gun near the pile of old ashes. Just as the fire has been reduced to the ashes so to is the dream. Slim comforts George, ‘You hadda, George. I swear you hadda,’ and he takes George away to get a drink. The final word is given to Carlson whose emotional limitations and lack of sensitivity are shown in his remark, ‘now what the hell ya suppose is eatin ‘ them two guys?’

Whether or not to Prepare for Disaster Research Proposal

Whether or not to Prepare for Disaster - Research Proposal Example A disaster can take many forms such as terrorist attacks, earthquakes, snowstorms, floods, among others. Therefore, it is  crucial  to make a decision on whether or not to prepare for a disaster before it occurs. Preparing for a disaster provides better  management  of crises and enables people to be well prepared when the actual  disaster  occurs. It also enables faster and effective response to disasters, and faster recovery of  business  after a disaster. Moreover, it is necessary to  create  an emergency plan and  ensure  it  is backed  daily on-site or off-site in a secure location (Ferrell and Linda, 2010). However, some people may not  find  it necessary to prepare for disaster due to various reasons. Others may fail to  prepare  due to lack of resources like money and time. Hence, it advisable to choose the  best  decision making model in order to make a  proper  judgment. This paper will explain how the 5-step decision making model can be used to make a decision on whether or not to prepare for disaster. The 5-step decision making model The 5-step model is straightforward and easy to use when making a decision compared to other models.  It consumes less time than other models because it consists of only five steps to follow when making a decision.  The first step is to  define  the  situation  or to identify the problem. ... It is the most time consuming  stage  in the process of decision making, which makes it a challenge to the decision maker. However, when it is not possible to get all the information, people  are forced  to rely on their intuition. The third step involves gathering alternatives (Brassard and Ritter, 2010).  When making a decision, there are other alternatives that a person can use;  thus, it is necessary to  list  other available options.  The list should  contain  other options that one is seriously considering and those that  fit  the main objective of the decision making process.  Listing many  unnecessary  options only makes the decision making process more difficult than it should be,  and also  prolongs the time it should  take  to make a decision. After developing a list of other available alternatives, evaluate the options.  This is the fourth  step  which involves assessing and ranking of the listed options. Single out the most p owerful options then  develop  a list of criterions to use when assessing these options. When ranking the options,  choose  an appropriate  scale  such as a 10  point  or 100 point scale, depending on the complexity of  the  decision  and the  total number of criterions that  have been used  to  assess  the options (Graduate school of business Administration, 2010).  After ranking the options against the chosen criterion, assign weight followed by  specific  scores to each option.  Finally multiply the scale score with the assigned weights then add the total scores of each option and make a decision. The decision making  step  is the final  stage  when making a decision using the 5-step model. However, it is the most difficult step that many

Maritime Environmental Issues Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Maritime Environmental Issues - Essay Example El Nino is characterized by extended differences on surface temperatures in Pacific Ocean compared to the average temperature value. It is a cooling or warming of at least 0.9 0F or 0.5 0C in average over east central of tropical Pacific Ocean (Philander1990). In general, the anomaly takes place at an interval of between 3 to 7 years regularly and lasts for between nine months and two years. This anomaly is characterized by events such as: rise in pressures in the surface over Australia, Indonesia, and Indian Ocean; a fall in atmospheric pressure over the eastern and central Pacific Ocean and Tahiti; arising warm air near Peru which usually causes rains in the deserts of northern Peruvian; weakening trade winds in Pacific; and spreading warm water from the west Pacific to the east Pacific and Indian Ocean. This causes extensive drought in west Pacific and rain to the eastern Pacific which is normally dry (Hayes 1991). El Nino is often characterized by warm temperatures, this is becau se of its warm rush of the tropical water that is poor in nutrients and is majorly heated by its tendency of eastern passage through the equatorial current where it displaces the cold water on the surface of the Humboldt Current which is rich in nutrients (McPhaden 1993. In cases where El Nino conditions and/ or episodes lasts for quite long, then the reduction in the trade winds in the east and the extensive warming of the ocean limits the nutrient rich cold deep water together with its economic effects to the local fishing for the international market (Lee 2000). These quasi periodic patterns of climate are experienced across tropical Pacific Ocean approximately after every 5 years. The anomaly phenomenon takes place due to the Southern Oscillation which varies the air pressure of the surface water in the western Pacific and the temperatures of water surface in the eastern Pacific Ocean (Brown 1986). It is the extremes of the oscillations that results into the anomalies of the wea ther conditions in many parts of the world. Those developing countries that boarder Pacific Ocean are widely affected. The phenomenon that characterizes El Nino with unusual warm temperatures of the surface of the ocean in the eastern and central tropical Pacific and unusual cool temperatures of the surface water of the ocean in the central and eastern tropical Pacific, results from the strong circulation of the air in the tropics. This oscillation is famous for influencing climate patterns and weather around the globe (Roberts 1993). Observations have been made on the occurrence of the events resulting from La Nina and El Nino. There is a drift towards the cool neutral side in relation to the sub surface and surface of the temperatures of the ocean along side various changes in the circulation of atmosphere (Dietrich 1999). These changes have indicated a drastic movement in the odds of La Nina that forms in the forthcoming period. This has resulted into uncertainty and the need for close monitoring for any particular signs of future developments. Today, El Nino has been characterized by oscillation of the atmosphere system of the ocean in the tropical Pacific which poses very significant consequences on the weather and climate around the globe. These consequences include high rainfall in Peru and the southern tier of the Unites States, drought and destructive flooding in West Pacific, and in some cases associated with distressing bush fires in Australia (Herpes 2001). El Nino results into warmer winters

Aims Scope And Objectives Of Investigations

Aims Scope And Objectives Of Investigations My investigation aim is to research the management collagen which can affect the organization structure and strategic objects and goals. They can abstract the performance of the company. And my project scope is to investigate all the work understanding from bottom to top employees to find out if there any collusion between labor and the management staff. I started my investigation at the point where organization was suffering huge losses. My investigation objective is to the research the past profit and loss statement to find out that will never happen in future time. My objective is to research the annual reports of the company so that the company can make a new strategic plan. Why need of Investigation: Whenever a company is going in wrong direction or when it loses its way then there will be need of an investigation. When a company gets loss then we do research about the current and past data and produce the result of investigation project. In this organization, the expenses are more than its income so it got loss so we researched all the past and present data of the company This company got loss this year so this needs an investigation or research. I have to know what is the main reason behind, thats why I am going to investigate all its strategic plan, how did it implicate on it in pass? Then I will examine the aim, scope and the objective of my investigation, how do I work? Then I will briefly discuss about the using sources of data and information and talk about its different options or alternatives that can support the project. Used different types of Investigation: For getting all data and information, I did different type of investigations like qualitative and quantities method. By using these methods I got primary collection data and secondary collection data. I have taken some steps like questionnaire, surveys and interviews. I took interviews from the workers and the management team of the company. I asked them about the past years data. Data is about their past performance and past gross profit. I went door to door and did survey from their customers. I asked them about the customer services that what they are providing? Customer compatibility management emphasizes the controllability of customer to customer interaction in the higher education environment (Rowley 1996). For getting the reason of the company loss, I shared survey questionnaire papers to all the employees of the company, so that I can find out the reason behind big loss. A great man is hard on himself; a small man is hard on others. (Confucius, Chinese philosopher, 551-479 BC). Satellite cable linkers which was introduced in 1998 by the idea of a genius person Khawaja Zulfiqar Ahmad. I have studied all the strategies of the company and after all my research on this case. I investigated about past years gross profit and management. Data of past experience shows that it was a very powerful company. Its gross profit was quite high but year by year it decreased and this year for the first time company got loss. And I come to know that there are some problems in different sectors of this Company especially in management area due to this company got loss. For getting the reason of the company loss, first I choose the qualitative method and quantitative method. Qualitative Method: Qualitative data means Qualitative data is extremely varied in nature. It includes virtually any information that can be captured that is not numerical in nature. In this method, In-Depth Interviews include both individual interviews (e.g., one-on-one) as well as group interviews (including focus groups). The data can be recorded in a wide variety of ways including stenography, audio recording, video recording or written notes. In depth interviews differ from direct observation primarily in the nature of the interaction. In interviews it is assumed that there is a questioner and one or more interviewees. The purpose of the interview is to probe the ideas of the interviewees about the phenomenon of interest. (William M.K. Trochim) So I took in-depth interviews on written notes. I interviewed with upper management to lower employee. I shared survey questionnaire papers to all the employees of the company, so that I can find out the reason behind that big loss of the company. I asked different questions with the workers like are they satisfy with the strategic planning of the company. I asked about the behavior of the superior staff. Quantitative Method: The range of mathematical and statistical techniques used to analyses data. In order to test empirical theories and hypotheses, political scientists draw on a wide range of sources, including primarily qualitative data such as documents, unstructured interviews, and participant observation, and primarily quantitative data such as those derived from sample surveys or aggregate statistics such as election results, census materials, or cross-national statistical series. (Article from: The Concise Oxford Dictionary of Politics, Article date: January 1, 2003, Author: Iian Mclean and Alistair McMillan). So I collected data from past years and current years and saw all the expenses and the income of all past and current years. After the calculation of all the research that I have done, the projects aims, scope and objectives are very high that can be achievable with the a good strategic implementation. A perfect strategy can easily build up the structure of the building. If we talk about the company, its base is quite solid but its structure is not relatively rock-solid as it shows from outside. It can be shattered at anytime just because of its poor management and my research is based on its poor management, old technique of work and broke system and suppressing. There is no training center for new employees. The salary paying system is very unsystematic. LO2: Conduct research, using sources, and synthesise data and options Collecting Data and Options: There are some data and information that I have collected which will support the aim of the subject. This data and information is based on my research about the aims of the project. Getting the reason of cause I used both the methods quantitative and qualitative. In quantitative method we can collect secondary data by its customers through its service history system or by companys annual report or by its past profit and loss statement. I collected the profit and loss statement data of the company of past ten years which I showed in my investigations. There are some data and information that I have collected which will support the aim of the subject. Chart: The chart is about Satellite Cable Linkers profit and loss statement of past ten years: This chart shows the profit, expenses and loss of Satellite Cable Linkers from year 2000 to 2010. In this chart it clearly shows that in past year the profit was at its peak but after year by year it declined slowly and in current year it got loss. Expenses from 2000 to 2002 are very rare but from 2002 to 2010 it increases gradually which cause of loss in this current year. In conclusion, the expenses will overcome on profit in future and loss will be more. On the other hand through qualitative method we can collect primary data by question airing, by doing survey or by taking interview of the management staff and the lower employees. I did interviews to different members So in research of this organization I got questionnaire survey of all the employees of the company. Survey Questionnaire of Company Q1: How do you feel secure in company? Ans: Q2: How do you see progressive in company? Ans: Q3: What do you see management in between the senior and juniors? Ans: Q4: Are you happy with your scale in Company? Ans: Q5: What does u say about staff behavior with other employee? Ans: Q6: Are u satisfied with the current strategy of company? Ans: Q7: Is there any cold war between the upper and lower class? Ans: Q8: Give any recommendation about company Ans: After getting all the survey questionnaire result, I was totally shocked to see most of the employee having totally different answers. Everyone is having different opinion and dissimilar answers. So then I came to know there is something wrong in the management which cause of a big loss. No matter what business you are doing, effects of poor management will always be devastating to your business. (Arjun Wadhva) LO3: Draw conclusions and make recommendations that achieve the project aim Conclusion: My all research analysis make a conclusion that the management and new technology can make a key role in achieving the company aims, new technology can change the idea of every person when they adopt it. The Phillips (1999) suggests that generational change is inevitable and continuous. On the other hand management is the back bone of an organization. And without management a company cant manage any plan or strategy, so educated and intellectual staff must be essential for the development and the progress of a company, because intelligent and hard working team are the individuals who can support a company in achieving its goals. Smith (1990, quoted in Gibbs 1998, p.78) in his book Analyzing patterns of work gives an excellent prà ©cis of leadership styles. Recommendations: A traditional hierarchical structure clearly defines each employees role within the organisation and defines the nature of their relationship with other employees. Hierarchical organisations are often tall with narrow spans of control, which gets wider as we move down the structure. They are often centralised with the most important decisions being taken by senior management. In the twentieth century as organisations grow bigger, hierarchical organisations were popular because they could ensure command and control of the organisation. However with the advent of globalisation and widespread use of technology, in the 1990s tall hierarchical organisations began to downsize and reduce their workforce. Technology was able to carry out many of the function previously carried out by humans. (www.learnmanagement2.com) Diagram: Hierarchical organization I have studied and examined so many hierarchical organizations like Vodafone UK, Sainsbury and Argos and they got progress by using hierarchical structure. So firstly recommend this structure that can take out a company from dark sight. It clearly defined promotion path. There will be specialists managers and the hierarchical environment can encourage the effective use of specialist managers. Employees will be very loyal to their department within the organisation. I recommend little action that can pick up the company to the high level and can increase the profit. In future, Action like training centers or workshops will help out in achieving the company aims, because skilled workers will be very useful company. There will be no waste of time for a company because it can get its qualified workers from training center. I recommend that the company can use media for advertisement. Now in this world, advertising is the best way that can attract the people. Now company can advertise its elf in future. There are so many ways that company can catch the attention of consumers by increasing the number of TV channels or by providing them clear result on TV. It can provide CD channels on which customers can watch any film whatever they want. It can achieve its aim in future by having customer services part in each branch of the area. These types of services can attract the customers so it increases the income and with that Income Company can achieve its aim. There are so many other options or alternatives that can also support the aims. Its aims are to beat and clean out their rivals and want to spread out of its city, so for that before giving anyone its branch first they have to see that other party is eligible for taking this responsibility. Because in future if that branch does something immoral then the company goodwill will be affected. There is no recruitment system for new employee and there is no training center where a new employee can learn the skill about its job. For achieving the aims there must be a training center so that there is no waste of time. And it will be very easy for recruiting skillful employee to new branches they these new branches will not take time to run their business. Another option that can support the company aims is new technology. New technology like using satellite links that attaches with TV of every customer. With the use of that technology there will be less complains by customers. There will be no waste of time and also there will be no waste of money. Money spends on cables roles that will save and use in different developing sectors of the company. The breakage of wires will be overcome with the use of new technology. After collecting all my data, I determine an option that will definitely support the project aims which is use of new technology. Because in future there will be very rare use of wires. Everything is going to be wireless. The mess of wiring system all over the streets and roads of the city will be ended. With this wireless system, there will be less need of employees for customer services because there will be very a lesser amount of complains. LO4: Review the results of the investigative project Results of the investigative project The result of the investigation project is that I come on a point that poor management is the loss portion of the company. My investigation shows that company got loss due to poor management. The way management implicates on the strategy is really bad. I have investigated that there is a big gap between upper and lower employees. By meanà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦ there is a lack of communication between two classes. And the main criteria are the management which is uneducated and untrained, so that why the management is quite poor in following organization strategies. Because of poor management, the lower employees dont have the ability to deal with the costumer and because of this there became a gap between the departments of HR and Sale department. There isnt any workshop in this company where a new employee can train himself. Company wastes a lot of time because it doesnt have any work shop or a training center where a new employee can easily get the skills or experience. New employees waste one or two months in company for getting some skills. It was a bigger drawback. Second important thing that I find out through my investigation is that there isnt any time table in this company. Employees are coming to their jobs on different time. They always come late and no one there who can watch them because all the management staff also comes late. There are awarding bodies that cannot manage all the employees and the management staff. There is no check and balance system. Through my investigation I showed that there are very low quality instruments provided by the company to employees. Some instruments are very old and its very difficult for employees to uses old instruments for connecting cables. Sometime receivers cards and decoder are expire after their duration and get a lot of time to buy a new decoders or renew the expired receivers cards. Sometime management forgets to order for new cable roles and dishes which also waste a lot of time to provide channels to its customers. Many times I have seen that customer does not satisfy with it, they want mor e from this company because of its goodwill. There are so many rivals who are coming to this field and they are attracting the customers toward themselves. Because of this current profit of the company is less than its past profits and it will get loss in its future years. To improve its gross profit we need a strategic plan that has strategic implication on it. That can help in improving the management. Impact of investigation project: Environmental impact assessment is, in its simplest form, a planning tool that is now generally regarded as an integral component of sound decision making As a planning tool it has both an information gathering and decision making component which provides the decision maker with an objective basis for granting or denying approval for a proposed development.( Justice La Forest, Friends of the Oldman v. Canada et al, 1991) Management pays a vital role to build a structure of an organization and to achieve the objective and goals with the accurate performance. My investigation shows that if any company does not improve management collapse then which result company business come to an end. Otherwise the impact of my investigation shows that company is on wrong direction which really needs to focus to prevent the future losses. So through my investigation, company can see it mistakes that they have done in past year. Throughout my investigation, company can easily overcome its entire past blunder. It can see the errors that it had made in past like expenses are more than its income
